What character trait do we equate with morality?
Morality is classifying the rightness and wrongness of people's action, intention, and decision. People usually think about morality when they get to decide whether their intention to do something is good or bad. Most of adults, or even young kids know the basic notion of morality. For example, people know why they should not kill other people or why they should not throw trashes in the street. However, murders and environmental pollution still happen today. Why are these keep happening when people know that they are morally wrong? The reason is because each person's standard of morality differs. Some people may find that throwing trashes in the street strictly wrong. However, other people may find it not as serious as what previous people think. Thus, morality can be equated with 'honesty'.
Honesty is the part of morality. To be moralistic is to be honest. Without being moralistic or honest, neither society nor civilization can be functioned correctly and humanely. Being honest to oneself is a very essential characteristic of people’s lives. With honesty, people follow the rules and form the society. The opposite word of honesty is lie. Once people started to distrust themselves and lie, conflicts and troubles begin and later lead to criminals that are still existent today. Therefore honesty is essential for people’s security. Being honest or believing oneself would create the moralistic world which would prevent all problems that would cause a greater debacle. Also, morals are necessary to maintain people’s freedom, because freedom exists only in a society where people follow and respect the society’s laws. In other words, morals are required to every human’s life. Human is not an absolutely autonomous and independent individual, but dependent and cooperating being. They have to respect each other and be honest with their lives in order to exercise their freedom in a required attitude.
