Two questions from the book
1.In this chapter, Fitzgerald preserves the mystery of the undefined significance of Doctor T. J. Eckleburg’s monstrous, bespectacled eyes yet gives no symbolic value. Why do you think he does this? Do you think there is another meaning to it?
Fitzgerald describes and compare Doctor T.J. Eckleburg's face with the valley of ashes.(surroundings) The doctor's appearances such as blue and gigantic eyes seem to describe people who live in East coast. Also, the eyes of the doctor may represent God staring down upon the world and judging American society as a moral wasteland.
2. It is said that the reason why the couple (Tom and Daisy) is not breaking up is because the wife is Catholic, which Nick does not infer to. Do you think that Daisy has actually kept being a Catholic as a secret from Nick or that Jordan just said a mere lie? Support your opinion.
Tom was telling people that Daisy was Catholic, however, she didn't believe in it. Tom and Daisy were couple, however, they didn't care about each other as much as other couples do. Their status and money meant everything. Therefore, in order to keep their wealth and all the luxuries they had, they needed each other to stay where they were in society.
