1. Discuss Nick Caraway’s character. How reliable is he as a narrator? What aspects of his character make him an effective narrator?
Nick described himself as 'one of the most honest person' among the characters presented in the book. Even though he narrates the story from his honest perspective, the readers can not hundred percent trust him. He tries to generalize his wrong thoughts about woman in several chapters.
2. Why is first-person narrative an effective and appropriate way of telling this story?
Nick didn't know about the relationship between Gatsby and Daisy . He was similar to the readers position, which made more interesting for readers to read because they read and get to know about the story together. Thus, the readers can relate themselves more into the story.
3. Discuss the title of the book. In what way is Gatsby “great?”
The word "Great" is to describe the greatness of Gatsby's love for Daisy. It also can be described as his passionate actions to achieve his goal (to be in love with Daisy once again).
6. Compare and contrast the character of Daisy and Myrtle Wilson?
For me, they seemed like a same type of woman who tries to get out of her not suiting positions. However, Daisy was more innocent.
7. Discuss the relationship between Nick and Jordan Baker. How does it reflect, if at all, on the story of Gatsby and Daisy?
The relationship between Nick and Jordan is more similar to that of Tom and Myrtle rather than that of Gatsby and Daisy. Their relationship is demoralized and they definitely don't love each other. Jordan cheated the golf contest to win the trophy and Nick constantly generalized his wrong thoughts about women. They both thought they were innocent and honest, however, they were wrong.
10. Describe the gradual revelation of Gatsby’s character. What do we learn about him and when? Why is this an appropriate way of learning about him?
In the book, Gatsby had nothing was more important than financial success, because in order to gain Daisy's love, he had to be financially wealthy. , He knew why Daisy left him and the reason was his poverty. However, it is quite interesting of how Gatsby likes Nick even though Nick is not a very wealthy man like other people in West Egg. This shows Gatsby's innocent and pure characteristic. He wasn't as much as affected by money and social positions like Daisy. For him, Nick was the only real and true friend he had.
